Terry Fox (July 28, 1958 – June 28, 1981) is a national hero. He lost his right leg to cancer when he turned 18 and started his cross Canada run to raise awareness and money for Cancer research. He started in Newfoundland on April 12, 1980. Unfortunately, he was forced to stop when Cancer spread, ending his Marathon of Hope in Thunder Bay on September 1, 1980. He has been awarded many prestigious awards including being made a companion of the Order of Canada, presented with the Order of the Dogwood, inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame, and numerous schools and landmarks have his name.
