This toolbox came from the Mickey Chermcara shoe repair shop that was located on the west side of Harris Road just to south of CPR tracks.

In the early 1970's the structure was sold to the Chermcara's who established a shoe repair business in the front of the building and maintained their household in the back. The lot was non-conforming for any future development and when the Chermcara's were ready to sell the District of Pitt Meadows acquired the site. The municipality did investigate the possibility of bringing the building up to code and leasing it out to a suitable tenant. However, a lack of a proper foundation under the structure had caused years of decay in the building and the difficult decision had to be made to tear it down. The Burnaby Village Museum initially was gifted a lot of items with the intent to build a shoemaker shop on their property. In 2019, this toolbox was gifted back to the Pitt Meadows Museum returning it to its original city. The Burnaby Village Museum has also generously gifted us photographs of the shoemakers' shop before demolition.

"IMG1":"1718920612_main_shoemakers-green-toolbox_1.jpg","IMG2":"","IMG3":"","IMG4":"","IMG5":"","IMG6":"","IMG7":"","IMG1_THUMB":"1718920612_thumb_shoemakers-green-toolbox_1.jpg","IMG2_THUMB":"","IMG3_THUMB":"","IMG4_THUMB":"","IMG5_THUMB":"","IMG6_THUMB":"","IMG7_THUMB":""}X
