The history that follows is about Robert Struthers and his family and it comes from Mary Struthers (his wife): In April 1921, Mr. and Mrs. William Struthers, with their sons John and Robert (they had two other children, William Junior and Jean),purchased the general store (where the museum is currently located) from the Thornton family who had owned the business for some 13 years. Mr. Struthers tended to mostly the Post Office, Jack oversaw the counter and service, Mrs. Struthers (Jeannie) took over the living quarters in the back of the store, and Robert (who was 8 when his family purchased the store) was in school. When the family opened the new store in late 1930 or early 1931, William (one of their sons) and Robert became partners in the business. Robert would later marry Mary Klassen and have their children John and Jean. Robert served the community as a member of council for 12 years, he was a charter member in the Pitt Meadows Lions Club, served as secretary treasurer for many years, during the construction of the church hall he took on the job as treasurer. Robert Struthers loved his community and served it faithfully.
