The Radiotelegraph Act of June 6, 1913, established Canadian policies for radio communication. The public who owned a radio receiver had to have a license and pass an exam to use their radio. During the First World War, Canada mostly banned the use of radio receivers for civilians, and this remained until 1919. In January 1922 the government introduced a private receiving station license. These originally cost $1 and had to be renewed yearly. In 1923 there were 9,996 private receiving station licenses. The revenue from these licenses were given to the CBC. The cost and the license were eliminated in 1953. There were other categories for those who wished to broadcast.<\/p>","SEO_LINK":"receiving-station-license","VIDEO_LINK":"","SOUNDCLOUD_LINK":"","IMG1":"1718922501_main_receiving-station-license_1.jpg","IMG2":"1718922502_main_receiving-station-license_2.jpg","IMG3":"","IMG4":"","IMG5":"","IMG6":"","IMG7":"","IMG1_THUMB":"1718922501_thumb_receiving-station-license_1.jpg","IMG2_THUMB":"1718922502_thumb_receiving-station-license_2.jpg","IMG3_THUMB":"","IMG4_THUMB":"","IMG5_THUMB":"","IMG6_THUMB":"","IMG7_THUMB":""}X
