In 1966, Queen Juliana of the Netherlands visited Pitt Polder, the photograph is a candid image of her with some dignitaries (perhaps Jan Blom) nearby. Queen Juliana reigned from September 4th 1948 to April 30th, 1980. During the German invasion of the Netherlands the royal family evacuated to the United Kingdom, with Juliana and her children evacuating to Canada. Canada still has a very close relationship with the Netherlands, and in 2019 Dutch Heritage Day was proclaimed as being on May 5th to coincide with Liberation Day (World War II) in the Netherlands. The Dutch people send tens of thousands of tulips to Canada to show their appreciation to our country as we took in part of the royal family during the war, and Canadian soldiers helped liberate the Netherlands.
