The Muench Bar Picnic Area, located at 21285 Allard Crescent in Langley B.C., is a beautiful spot to visit with its incredible views of the Fraser River and the Golden Ears Peaks. It also has a connection to the Blaney Family Farm (Heritage Site) in Pitt Meadows because Edward and Catherine (Shenade) Muench were Nettie Blaney's grandparents. Edward and Catherine Muench combined farming and fishing to make their living. They raised nine children on the farm and one of those children, Matilda Mary Muench, married a Canadian Pacific Railway employee, Oscar John Miller. Matilda and Oscar lived in Harrison Mills B.C. where he held the position of CPR Section Foreman for that area. They had three children - Frederick Oscar, Nettie Matilda, and Matilda Emily (known as \"Toots\"). Sadly, the children were left without a mother when Matilda passed away in 1895, just one year after Toots' birth. Oscar, shortly after his wife's death, got another section foreman position at Port Hammond, B.C. and he moved his family there. Several years later, Nettie Miller met David James Blaney. They married on November 1, 1912. Together they ran the Blaney Farm, located on Harris Road just north of Katzie Slough, and were both involved in local community groups and events. They had two daughters, Marjerie and Phylis.<\/p>\r\n
