It was removed when our new flooring was put in in September 2007. Linoleum is a smooth floor covering made from a solidified mixture of linseed oil, flax, cork, wood flour and pigments, it is pressed between heavy rollers onto a canvas backing. Frederick Walton (Englishman) created it, the story is that it was a lucky accident of forgetting to seal a container of linseed oil he was using and when it solidified he peeled it off and started to think of other ways to use it. He created his Linoleum Manufacturing Company Limited in 1864 in Staines, England. By 1869 he was exporting to Europe and North America! Others started to manufacture linoleum and Walton attempted to sue his competition for trademark infringement. He unfortunately lost as the judges decided that the word Linoleum had become so commonplace it was a generic term. Now we curse previous homeowners or relatives who covered up beautiful hardwood flooring underneath the likes of Linoleum and carpet. However, it was ideal for the people putting it in at the time. Linoleum was known for being easy to clean, resistant to stain, and could hold up to use.<\/p>","SEO_LINK":"kitchen-linoleum","VIDEO_LINK":"","SOUNDCLOUD_LINK":"","IMG1":"1718922434_main_kitchen-linoleum_1.jpg","IMG2":"","IMG3":"","IMG4":"","IMG5":"","IMG6":"","IMG7":"","IMG1_THUMB":"1718922434_thumb_kitchen-linoleum_1.jpg","IMG2_THUMB":"","IMG3_THUMB":"","IMG4_THUMB":"","IMG5_THUMB":"","IMG6_THUMB":"","IMG7_THUMB":""}X
