This artifact is a wooden high chair with floral details c. 1940s. The highchair came from Holland and is painted in a typical motif to the area it came from.<\/p>\r\n

The donor states that it was used by her children in the 1960’s in Pitt Polder but is much older than that. The donor immigrated to Canada and to Pitt Polder in 1959, married in 1961 and continued to live in the Polder where her children were born and used the chair until 1967 when she and her husband moved to Maple Ridge.<\/p>\r\n

The point of highchairs for those who don’t know is to help make it easier to feed, tend and restrain (think of a child who keeps getting into messes while a mother\/father is in the kitchen making dinner) a child. Highchairs follow fashions and trends, meaning that you can usually date a highchair based on the trends going around at the time.
