The Griffieon family were immigrants from Holland. The family had this written about them in the Abbotsford, Sumas and Matsqui News on April 30, 1952 “Never has a new immigrant family cause more sensation across the North American continent then that of the Dutch family of twenty which will step off a C.N.R. passenger train at Matsqui at 1:43 pm today. Mr. and Mrs. Jan Griffioen and their sixteen children, one adopted son and son-in-law, hit the headlines when they arrived in New York from Holland one week ago. Matsqui and Sumas municipal representatives will be present to extend a welcome to the new residents.” The family moved to Pitt Meadows in March 1953 to a Dairy farm located on 18782 Dewdney Trunk Road.
