Elmer Alvin Tippe was born January 21st, 1933 in Etonia Saskatchewan, and moved to McKechnie Road in Pitt Meadows with his parents and siblings in 1947 at the age of 13.<\/div>\r\n

His entertaining professionally started when he was 15 years old playing dances up and down the valley with his two older brothers. He went on to play as a sideman with other bands until he fronted his own band in 1975 called, “Supercountry”. This band became very popular and were nominated many times for awards by the B.C. Country Music Association. Elmer has experienced most facets of the business. In 1957 he travelled with the Royal Canadian Shows. Billed as the ‘Pine Mountain Boys’, direct from Nashville TN entertaining with a southern drawl and sleeping in the tent!<\/div>\r\n

1957 married Alice Mae Brecht, and they have 3 children Ricky Clarence, Melanie Dawn and Guyle Trent, 6 Grandsons & 3 Great Grandsons.<\/div>\r\n

He also toured with a group for the Alberta Government Exchange Program with Germany being billeted out with families in Germany. He performed the music for a small segment in the movie, ‘A Man, a Woman, and a Bank’ staring Donald Sutherland and Brook Adams. Did many T.V. shows and telethons, Timmy’s telethon several times and Heart and Stroke fundraisers (raised $28,000) organized by 2 of his grandsons – Brett and Trent Johnson, the Ride for Andrea for the Disabled Riders Association and others.<\/div>\r\n

He was even part owner in a club in PoCo called, ‘Elmer’s Place’.<\/div>\r\n

Records to his credit include 4 albums: ‘I Found a Song, Elmer Tippe and his Supercountry Band, Dreams of a Dreamer and Charlie the Trucker.” Released 7 singles of the albums to radio. Three of the songs were written by his son Rick when he was 15 years old, 6 songs off of ‘I found a Song’ album written by Elmer and D.J. friend Dave Cash. The most requested written by the two of them was ‘Cleaning Out the Closets’. Ray Price was always Elmer’s idol. He moulded his style after him and his fiddle playing after Ray’s fiddle player. So with his Ray Price voice and Jackson style fiddling he soon became, quote: ‘Canada’s Answer to Ray Price’. Elmer has the #1 show in Vancouver from noon to three on CKWX. Here he got to interview the major artists on his show, like Marty Robins, Ray Price, Johnny Cash, Red Sovine, Chet Atkins, Mel Tillis, Ferlin Husky, Mickey Gilley, George Jones & Tammy to name a few. He also performed with and became friends with many. He fronted the Ray Price Show in Kamloops in 1966. Worked one summer for CFCW Camrose doing rodeos and fairs also working with Minnie Pearl and Wilf Carter. Elmer has received many BC Country Music Awards including ‘Male Vocalist, Country Music Broadcaster (7 times while on CKWX),Hall of Fame and Country Music Person of the Year…<\/div>\r\n
