The sugar dish was engraved with the C.P.R. initials and the style\/design was commonly used on Canadian Pacific dining cars as early as 1910. They bear the Elkington Plate hallmark. The Plate with a brown maple leaf design was used on passenger train services in the 1930s and 40s. The design incorporated the art deco style Canadian Pacific script with stalks of wheat and maple leaves. The vegetable dish is from the Royal Alexandra Hotel, Winnipeg Manitoba (date unknown possibly 1930c),the hotel was built in 1906 and closed in 1967. These pieces came to the Museum as part of CP Rails 125th anniversary donation and celebration to 125 museums across Canada. The event was in 2010 as it was the 125th anniversary of the driving of the last spike, signalling the completion of Canada's first transcontinental railroad. CP President and CEO (at the time of donation) Fred Green said, “In honour of our connected history, we are donating unique items from our extensive collection of vintage memorabilia to a number of museums and historical societies that play a vital role in sharing Canada’s diverse history and culture”. As our museum rests so close to the railway, we see the importance of early communities’ relationship with the railway daily.<\/p>","SEO_LINK":"cpr-artifacts","VIDEO_LINK":"","SOUNDCLOUD_LINK":"","IMG1":"1718921857_main_cpr-artifacts_1.jpg","IMG2":"1718921858_main_cpr-artifacts_2.jpg","IMG3":"1718921859_main_cpr-artifacts_3.jpg","IMG4":"","IMG5":"","IMG6":"","IMG7":"","IMG1_THUMB":"1718921857_thumb_cpr-artifacts_1.jpg","IMG2_THUMB":"1718921858_thumb_cpr-artifacts_2.jpg","IMG3_THUMB":"1718921859_thumb_cpr-artifacts_3.jpg","IMG4_THUMB":"","IMG5_THUMB":"","IMG6_THUMB":"","IMG7_THUMB":""}X
