I believe Mr. Edward Cook came to Pitt Meadows in 1877 and built a house a long way back from Harris Road, also a large barn later on. They did a lot of logging on their large tract of land in the early days. As far as I know, they were married in 1878. My grandmother, Mrs. Annie Louise Cook gave me her wedding dress in 1928 and I gave it to the Pitt Meadows Heritage Museum in 1983 I believe. It is now 110 years old (in 1988) and can be seen there. All the Cook children were born in Pitt Meadows. When the children were quite young they moved to Haney for a few years as they owned a lot of acreage on Dewdney Trunk Road about ½ mile above the Alexander Robinson School that there is now, and on the North side of the road when going East. They planted quite a large orchard there, but after a few years, their house burned down so they moved back to Pitt Meadows. About 1916 or 1917 they built a lovely new house about 100 feet off Harris Road with nice lawns and equipped with several lawn games They also cleared many acres of land by then and all were planted with strawberries which grew so well on their land. As far as I can remember Mr. Cook died in 1937 and Mrs. Cook around a year and one half later. They both came from Ontario, Mrs. Cook from Simco, Ontario. Harry Cook and his wife and son lived there for many years. Around 1980 or near that time the Municipality took over the house and property that went with the house. It was empty for some time and then demolished. It should have been kept and the Heritage Museum should have been there.
