The first image is of Bill Park in 1988 where he was helping the fire department raise money for the Pitt Meadows Day fireworks display, and the second image is of Bill Park (left) and Jack Dougan (right) in 1990 fighting a house fire on Harris Road. The Park family has diligently served Pitt Meadows, like his father who was a municipal councilor as well as a volunteer firefighter (a founding member!),and his grandfather had been a reeve! Bill Park was a fireman who started in 1981 as he stated, “I applied in July of ’81, and by the end of August I was given a pager and I was a firefighter.” He was promoted in 1992 to Volunteer Chief, and he was Fire Chief in 1998 (following Len Garris’ departure). When Park was first starting training was rudimentary, training happened in the fire hall learning how to drive the truck, pump water, pull hose, and air tanks and face masks were just starting to become common! When Park began the biggest issue facing the department was the building of a new hall (Which is currently in the process of being replaced).
