Scanning with Laura,

Scanning with Laura

Hello, my name is Laura. I am a fourth-year archaeology and anthropology student at Simon Fraser University. I have been a volunteer at the Pitt Meadows Museum since early fall of 2025 and have come to enjoy contributing to any task at this museum and getting to know the staff and volunteers.

My job for the summer as a collections technician was to scan and accession hundreds of photos and documents that were on loan which pertain to the McMyn and Sharpe family. My main task was to sort through a suitcase and multiple boxes full of documents, newspapers and other files, along with photo albums. Many of the photos, negatives, and postcards dated from the early 1900s to the 2000s. These were scanned and accessioned into the archives. In total, over 500 photographs were scanned and accessioned. Along with that, countless other documents were scanned and organized into the archives as well. Work done from previous years was looked over and organized, properly labelled, and their presence in databases were corrected; including almost 800 photographs.

Another part of my role was opening and closing of the Hoffman site on Sundays. I was able to interact more with the community and speak with a variety of people that love visiting in the summer.

It was fun to help during the Heritage Thursdays events, which were done by the hard work of Katie who had created wonderful presentations and crafts for the children to learn and create.

I am thankful for the summer and being able to work with Keagan, Rebekah, and Katie. It was especially nice expanding my knowledge on the city I grew up in. Thank you for a wonderful summer!

Summer 2026.
