History of their lives after leaving Pitt Meadows
The Ito family was forced to move to Manitoba to work on the sugar beet farms in 1942.
Kikuo headed to Ontario to take up work in the logging industry. He enlisted in the Canadian Army and served from 1945 to 1947 with the S-20 in the South Asia Command-Intelligence Division, earning the rank of Sergeant during his service. After he was released from Active Service he moved back to the West Coast. He met and married his wife Sue during this time. They owned a dry-cleaning business in the city in the 1950s, and in 1957 Kikuo joined the ILWU and worked as a Longshoreman until his retirement in 1983. He had two daughters with his wife. Through the Landscapes of Injustice, the Internment Records for each family member are now accessible. If there are no records of the family member it could be because they were under 16 years old and were put on their parents forms.
