History of the Ikeda Family

Riki Ikeda was born in Fukuoka-Ken, Japan. Ayako was born in New Wesminster, B.C. According to the 1931 Census, Riki Ikeda entered Canada in 1919. He was living in Vancouver as a single man as of that time. In 1922, Ayako re-entered Canada to live at 437 Alexander in Vancouver with her fathers friend (this is the same residence where Riki would be residing in according to the 1931 Census). On November 28th 1937, Riki and Ayako were married in Vancouver. By April of 1942 they were living in Pitt Meadows.

History of their lives after leaving Pitt Meadows

By late 1945 the family had relocated to Geraldton, Ontario and there are six children.

Riki and Ayako (we assume their young children as well) were returned to Japan on the S.S. “Marine Falcon” on October 2nd 1946.

By 1965 according to voters lists, Ayako, Roy and Joan were living in Vancouver. We have no records of why or when they returned to Canada or if Riki came back with them.  We have no records of what happened to the other children including Teru Billy Ikeda.

Internment Records

Through the Landscapes of Injustice, the Internment Records for each family member are now accessible. If there are no records of the family member it could be because they were under 16 years old and were put on their parents forms.
