History of the Hoshizaki Family

According to the 1921 census, Kazuo Hoshizaki lived with his brother Thomas Yasuo Hoshizaki with their parents and siblings in Pitt Meadows. The brothers were both born in Canada and were Canadian citizens. Their parents Yastaru and Tsune were Japanese citizens, who entered Canada in 1907 and 1914 respectively.

Only Kazuo, Helen, Eleanor and Thomas Yasuo were listed on our internment records. It is unknown what happened to Kazuo and Thomas Yasuo’s other siblings and parents as they were not listed as living in Pitt Meadows in 1942.

History of their lives after leaving Pitt Meadows

Kazuo and Helen did have other children after they left Pitt Meadows their names are Alan, Brian, Linda, and Donald.

Kazuo and Helen operated their own business at some point in Nakusp, when they retired, they moved to Vernon. Kazuo and Helen moved to Armstong in 1995. Unfortunately, Kazuo would pass away shortly after the move on January 23rd, 1997. Helen joined Tai Chi and became active in the United Church Ladies Auxiliary group.

Sadly, Eleanor would pass away in 2001 in Naksup.

Internment Records

Through the Landscapes of Injustice, the Internment Records for each family member are now accessible. If there are no records of the family member it could be because they were under 16 years old and were put on their parents forms.
